Welcome!

Welcome to Arun-Adur Cycling Club, part of Cycling UK (formerly CTC) West Sussex Member Group. We are based in the Shoreham to Littlehampton area of West Sussex, with regular weekly rides that start from those places and also from Worthing, Chichester, and occasionally further east in Brighton and Hove.

We offer sociable and friendly all-day rides every week on Tuesdays, usually covering distances ranging from 25 to 45 miles at a comfortable touring pace (average c.10-12 mph). Most rides are completely on-road, but occasionally we also use bridleways and Downland tracks; this should be noted on the rides list. On Tuesday rides we don’t use the kind of terrain that can only be tackled on a mountain bike, so hybrids and touring bikes are fine.

The rides list alongside shows the time and place to meet on Tuesday mornings; the rides leave promptly at the start time. It is possible to get to most starts by train, and the ride returns to the starting point for anyone coming by car. We ride for an hour or so to a café for a coffee stop (11’s). At this point some people might decide to turn back for a shorter ride, otherwise we then go on to the lunch stop at a pub or café. After lunch the ride returns to the starting point.

All types of bikes are welcome on our rides, so long as they are well maintained and roadworthy. Please bring a spare inner tube and basic tools such as tyre levers, a spanner if you don’t have quick-release wheels, and a working pump. In the autumn and winter months please make sure you have good working lights front and back, as it gets dark early. We don’t have club shirts or colours, and we don’t insist on hi-viz or a helmet.

You can come along and try up to three rides before there is a requirement to join the club, and of course also Cycling UK if you are not already a member. This is because of insurance cover. Please contact Peter Wilson, the club secretary, if you have any questions, otherwise please just turn up on a Tuesday and give us a try.
